The renewal survey is carried out once every 5 years and is an extended technical survey of the ship, with a favorable outcome of which the ship is recognized as complying with the requirements to maintain the class.

What does the Renewal survey includes?

During the survey, a detailed control of the operability of the steering, anchor, towing devices, cable routes, electrical and automation equipment, fire protection system, diesel generator, compressors, fans, signal and distinctive equipment, computer systems and other equipment is carried out.

GMDSS communication systems are being tested and compliance with the requirements of the SOLAS convention is being tested.

The renewal survey implies required inspection of the underwater part of the vessel in the dock. Subjects to verification:
- the degree of wear of the elements of the ship's hull
- propeller-steering system
- boot top
- underwater hull
- residual bulkhead thickness
- residual metal thickness

The purpose of the survey is to ensure that the ship is fit for its intended use and complies with all applicable safety standards. The survey renewal process is similar to the periodic survey, but results in the issuance of a new certificate.
