FOULING AND DEFECTS
During operation, ships are faced with a lot of negative factors: changing of climatic zones, salt water, exposure of the sun and wind, corrosion and erosion, floating oil products and more. As a result, the paint and varnish coating is destroyed, and after it, the hull of the vessel too.
In places of defects, or if the coating does not correspond to the aggressive conditions of the aquatic environment, fouling of marine life appears: mollusks, algae, shells, etc. Fouling leads to increased friction of the hull, and, as a result, an increase of fuel consumption up to 40% for maintaining the speed, compared to clean hull, and also premature failure of the vessel.
